International English Language Testing System

Types of IELTS

IELTS offers two main versions of the test:

IELTS Academic:

IELTS General Training:

Geared towards candidates who want to work, train, study at a secondary level, or migrate to Overseas. It focuses on practical, everyday English language skills.

 

IELTS STRUCTURE

Date and Frequency There are various centres where students can book their exam. Mostly every city has atleast two centres where they can book their exams.
Center and Admit Card The IELTS test center provides candidates with an admit card containing essential details for the test day.
Results These days IELTS exam provides candidates with official test results after 7 calendar days, showcasing their English language proficiency. Also, sometimes it takes around 13 days to release the result.

Four IELTS Modules
LISTENING
* Assesses candidates ability to understand spoken English.
* Four sections with audio recordings of increasing difficulty. .
* Question types include -

* Lasts approximately 40 minutes.
WRITING
* Evaluates candidates written communication skills.

* In General Training: it's letter writing. -> Formal Letter
-> Semi Formal Letter
-> Informal Letter
* Task 2 requires writing an essay on a given topic.
-> Agree/ Disagree
-> Compare and Contrast
-> Advantage/ Disadvantage
-> Problem Essays
-> Discussion
READING
* Tests candidates comprehension of written English.
* Three sections with passages of increasing complexity.
* Question types include
-> Multiple-choice Question
-> Short answer Questions
-> Sentence Completion
-> Classification
-> Matching List/ Phrases
-> Choosing heading for paragraph
* Lasts 60 minutes.
SPEAKING
Speaking has 3 sections: i) Intro ii) CUE Card iii) Follow up questions * Assesses candidates' oral communication in English.
* Face-to-face interview with an examiner.
* Tests fluency, pronunciation, Lexical Resource and Grammar
* Lasts 11-14 minutes.

Fee Structure for IELTS

 IELTS registration costs in India are now 17,250 rupees, although they are subject to change. When arranging a test session, candidates must confirm the fee and pay it using a digital payment method.
