Study in Germany 2026–27: New Rules, More Work Rights & Public University Pathways (Eduwing’s Global Guide)
31 March 2026

Here’s one of the biggest updates: you can now work up to 25 hours each week while you study. That’s five extra hours compared to before, which means more income and more chances to gain local work experience.
For lots of students, those extra hours make it a lot easier to cover expenses and build your résumé.
After you finish your studies, New Zealand’s rolling out a few more options.
Completing a Level 5–7 program but don’t qualify for the regular post study visa? You can apply for a six month Short Term Graduate Work Visa (coming late 2026). Use that time to job hunt, build local contacts, and get some experience under your belt.
If you’re doing a Level 7 Graduate Diploma and already have a bachelor’s degree, you can get a one year Post Study Work Visa.
Important (remember this): you only get one shot at a post study work visa, so plan your route carefully.
Immigration New Zealand has moved everything online.
The new digital system means real time updates, faster processing, fewer mistakes, and a lot less waiting. You can track your application, upload documents, and move through steps that used to take much longer.
Starting August 2026, New Zealand’s PR system is getting clearer and more career focused.
There are new pathways for:
• Skilled work experience
• Trades and technician jobs
If you want to settle down, you’ll need to build work experience in New Zealand (these changes make that transition much more achievable).
The financial requirement is now around NZD 20,000 per year for living expenses.
Immigration authorities are reviewing applications more carefully, so your study plan must align with your career goals. Random course selection is no longer enough.
From June 2026, family visas are also part of the upgraded digital system.
If you want your partner or children to join you, the process is becoming simpler and faster.
New Zealand is offering a complete system:
Study in quality institutions
Work during your studies
Stay back after graduation
Build experience
Move toward settlement
The key is to connect your study, work, and future plans from the beginning.
